Pilates is a physical fitness system that was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates during the First World War with the intention to improve the rehabilitation program for casualties. Pilates classes build strength, flexibility and lean muscle tone with an emphasis on lengthening the body and aligning the spine, rather than on bulking and shortening the muscles. It has a focus on the core which can basically be thought of as the ‘powerhouse’ of your body.

A-Tone Fitness Lounge offers Pilates with a difference. Known for its ability to help realign the spine, strengthen the core, Pilates is an excellent way rejuvenate the body after strenuous activity and to help build lean muscle. The low-impact, high-intensity training techniques of Pilates make it the ideal workout for those looking for an intense workout even for those times that the body undergoes recovery.

We offer Jumpboard Pilates, Chair Pilates Reformer Pilates and Mat Pilates.

The Jumpboard is a Reformer accessory that is often used for plyometric training as it mimics the hard surface of the floor, ideal for stability, strength and resistance training. The EXO chair is a high intensity regime that is excellent for enhancing the core. Reformer and Mat Pilates assist one to strengthen the core, and are ideal for beginners in the Pilates realm. We will introduce you to Circuit Pilates with mat Circuit classes, for you to gain an understanding of how it works. During your session you will be using accessories such as the Tobu Ball, Magic circle, Thera band and Foam roller.
